(MYFOX NATIONAL) - A family feud got out of hand over the weekend when a New York man was accused of biting off his brother-in-laws ear reports LoHud.com .
Jose V. Paccha, 27, of Ossining, N.Y. is accused of biting off his brother-in-laws right ear after having a fight in the backyard according to Lt. William Sullivan.
Paccha had fled the scene before police arrived.
"Officers arrived and found an injured male who had been involved in a fight and had his ear bitten off," Sullivan said. "It was recovered at the scene and transported, with the victim, to the Westchester Medical Center, where the victim underwent surgery, and the ear was attached."
The incident occurred on Saturday and Paccha turned himself into police on Monday.
According to LoHud.com , Paccha was charged with first-degree assault and is being held in the Westchester County jail on $100,000 bail.
In addition to the assault charges, authorities believe that Paccha is in the U.S. illegally from Ecuador and are also holding him on a federal immigration detainer warrant. Even if he makes bail, he can still be detained.
The reason for the fight is unclear said Sullivan.
Another family argument got violent last January when a woman bit off her sister's nose reports MyFox LA .
Bobbie Smith and her sister Sandra Smith were having an argument when Bobbie Smith bit off her sister's nose. Police were able to recover the severed part of the nose for doctors to re-attach.
Bobbie Smith was charged with domestic violence and mayhem charges for also kicking an officer and causing damage to a patrol car.
Authorities are uncertain as to what caused that fight as well, but Bobbie Smith's defense lawyer says that both sisters were intoxicated.
