Act Fast! Airline Fare Sale Ends Tonight

(MYFOX NATIONAL) - Planning to fly this year? You have until midnight tonight (March 11) to take advantage of big discounts offered by struggling airlines for travel between March 19 and Nov. 16, USA Today reports.

The two-day sale, which began March 10, includes fares as low as $44 one way, plus taxes and fees, on Air Tran, U.S. Airways, United, Delta, American Airlines and others.

Air Tran is offering $44 flights to a few select U.S. cities and other sale prices to other destinations. Tickets must be booked by midnight on March 11. There are some other restrictions.

Delta is also offering a $44 fare and other sale prices.

To get the deals, travelers may have to make a connection or travel to a smaller, alternative airport.

Parsons told the newspaper that such a long window for buying discounted tickets was unusual. Despite some blackouts, the requirement of a 10-day advance purchase and no deals available for travel on Fridays and Sundays, the savings are still worth pursuing, he said.

"We haven't had a 200-day sale in a long, long time," Parsons told the newspaper. "It's Christmas in March as far as I'm concerned. And you'd better take the gift while you can."

Parsons said summer travel deals might be more difficult to find.

"If you're flying coast to coast, you're still going to have to look hard," he said. "The inventory may be restricted in the summer, so you may have a little bit tougher time. The airlines are not going to give away every single seat at a cheap price. But this is the first big summer sale we've had, so there should still be plenty of room."
