MYFOX NATIONAL - Todrick Hall was bumped from Idol, as his performance of Queens' "Somebody to Love Me" was good, but not enough to get him into the Top 12.
It looks like stage actor Todrick Hall, who has performed with former "American Idol" star Fantasia in "The Color Purple" on Broadway, will have to work extra hard to win over parents watching season nine of the talent competition.
According to TampaBay.com , the 24-year-old playwright, who hails from Arlington, Tex., is part of a controversy that surfaced over the past few weeks, involving a failed theater production of a show he wrote and planned to direct titled "Oz, the Musical."
The top 24 semifinalist's involvement with the play that never got off the ground, angered parents across the U.S. that paid $50 for their children who made it through auditions.
But when the production company went broke, Hall produced an alternate show at the Palladium Theater in St. Petersburg.
Before starting to pen and direct his own productions, the musician revealed on his blog that he started out performing on Disney cruise ships and at Disney World before appearing in "High School Musical 2".
The composer initially impressed the judges with a song he wrote just for the panel: "Todrick is my name, and I'm here to play a part in your game. Hopped a plane, took a train just to claim my 15 minutes of fame. Do I have to get down on my knees in my $300 jeans? Because I would, if it meant to me that maybe you could just send me to Hollywood."
The Idol hopeful, who admits on his blog that he's never had a voice lesson, believes he could have what it takes to win over viewers.
According to NJ.com , Hall has "all the right ingredients -- the looks, the voice and the stage presence -- to make it far in this competition".
